Prof. Rao Vemuri, University of California, Davis, CA USA

Emeritus Professor Rao Vemuri joined UC Davis faculty in 1986 and held a joint appointment with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory until he retired in 2012. While at LLNL he worked on the use of neural network methods for detecting clandestine underground nuclear explosions, the use of genetic algorithms in assembling DNA restriction fragments in the Human Genome Project, use of Bayesian nets in solving inverse problems while searching the WWW. Prior to his current position he taught at SUNY, Binghamton and Purdue University, West Lafayette. He also worked at TRW, Redondo Beach on such projects as the Hubble Space Telescope and the MX Missile. He was a Fulbright Lecturer in India during 2010. As a faculty facilitator in IUCEE (Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education) he visited India several times and conducted short courses. He visited Vietnam twice to teach courses in AI, Machine Learning and Mobile Computing at the University of Science, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam under a US Faculty Grant from the Vietnam Education Foundation. He spent one month as a visiting professor at Lund University, Sweden and taught several short courses in Mexico as an IEEE/ACM Distinguished Lecturer. He also served on the editorial boards of several journals and had been the Editor-in-Chief of CS Press. He had been the founder/CEO of Smartifacts, LLC in 2002 and is now a consultant to several companies.

Aim and Scope of Session

The goals of green computing are similar to green chemistry: reduce the use of hazardous materials, maximize energy efficiency during the product's lifetime, the recyclability or biodegradability of defunct products and factory waste. Green computing is important for all classes of systems, ranging from handheld systems[1] to large-scale data centers. Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are the main technology drivers of the present decade. The objective of this special session is to present the research from different perspectives of smart technology to usher in the green revolution in the IT space. Topics of interest include issues related to energy efficient computing, mobile computing, algorithm optimization, impact of cloud computing, and architectural innovations to promote green consciousness. Participants from academia, industry and government are encouraged to share their ideas. This special session provides a platform for researchers and scientists across the world to exchange and share their experiences and research results about all aspects of Machine Learning and AI in information technology.

Dr. Jason Levy, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, Public Administration, University of Hawaii

Dr. Levy is a professor of public administration at the University of Hawaiʻi who works with engineers, computer scientists and disaster managers to promote disaster resilience and socio-economic sustainability. Dr. Levy has received more than $3 million in research grants and worked at leading academic centers around the world. He has published over 50 peer reviewed journal publications and serves on the editorial boards of over a dozen academic journals. His research develops timely, interdisciplinary and effective Information and Computer Technologies for managing the unexpected, major and cascading impacts of hazards and disasters that cross policy domains, geographic, political and sectoral boundaries..

Aim and Scope of Session

The special session explores a wide variety of Information and Computer Technologies (ICT) for Disaster Management including advances in computer science, big data, human-computer interaction and decision support systems. An interdisciplinary approach is used to create ICT knowledge that can support professionals from different disciplines including data analysts, business leaders, government officials and managers. Prof. Korganbay Sholanov Karaganda state technical university, Kazakhstan

Professor Korganbay Sholanov is working of Automation of production process department at Karaganda state technical university (Karaganda, Kazakhstan). The main directions of his scientific activity are connected with parallel robots. He has suggested to use parallel robots in the system of active earthquake protection of buildings, constructions; in renewable power industry. He has created prototypes of parallel robots of two types, wave and wind sources of electric energy. He is the author of such scientific works as "Cybernetic machines", "Multimobile mechanisms with the closed kinematic chains" and has 170 scientific publications.

Aim and Scope of Session

The special session objective is to provide exchange of achievements in scientific research in the field of robotics and renewable power. After discussion, the most interesting results will be published in the rating editions given above. Professor Dr. BS Chowdhry is Distinguished National Professor and the Dean Faculty of Electrical Electronics and Computer Engineering at Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro, Pakistan. He did his PhD from renowned School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, UK in 1990. He is having teaching, research and administration experience of more than 35 years. He has the honour of being one of the editor of several books “Wireless Networks, Information Processing and Systems”, CCIS 20, “Emerging Trends and Applications in Information Communication Technologies”, CCIS 281, “Wireless Sensor Networks for Developing Countries”, CCIS 366, “Communication Technologies, Information Security and Sustainable Development”, CCIS 414, published by Springer Verlag, Germany.
He has also been serving as a Guest Editor for special issue “Wireless Personal Communications” Springer International Journal. He has produced more than 13 PhDs and supervised more than 50 MPhil/Masters Thesis in the area of ICT. His list of research publication crosses to over 60 in national and international journals, IEEE and ACM proceedings. Also, he has Chaired Technical Sessions in USA, UK, China, UAE, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Pakistan, Denmark, Spain and Belgium.
He is member of various professional bodies including: immediate past Chairman IEEE Karachi Section, Region10 Asia/Pacific, Fellow IEP, Fellow IEEEP, Senior Member, IEEE Inc. (USA), SM ACM Inc. (USA).
He is a Lead person for four European Commission Erasmus Mundus exchange programs “Mobility for Life”, “STRoNG-TiES” (Strengthening Training and Research through Networking and Globalisation of Teaching in Engineering Studies), INTACT (It's Time for CollaboratioNTowArds Close CooperaTion) and LEADERS (Leading mobility between Europe and Asia in Developing Engineering educations and ReSearch).
He organized several International Conferences including “IMTIC08”, “IMTIC12”, “IMTIC13”, “IMTIC15”, “WSN4DC13”, “IEEE SCONEST”, “IEEE PSGWC13”, and track chair in “Global Wireless Summit (GWS 2014), and Chief Organizer and Co-Chair GCWOC’16, GCWOC’17 in Malaga Spain.

Bhagwan Das received his PhD degree in Optical Communication from Department of Communication Engineering, Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Malaysia in OCT 2017. Currently, he is working as lecturer in Department of Electronic Engineering in QUEST, Pakistan since 2011. He has published three book chapters with world’s well known publisher i.e. Springer and IGI Global. He has published more than 40 articles in international journals and in conferences these are indexed in SCOPUS, ISI, EI compendex. He has presented his research work in Malaysia, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Singapore, France, Turkey and in Vietnam. He succeed in achieving a patent and copyrights for his research work. Dr. Bhagwan Das has won eight gold medals in international innovative competitions for his research work. He is the receipt of BEST MAN INVENTOR 2016 award given by International Federation of Inventors Associations (IFIA), Switzerland. He won COMMERCIAL AWARD given by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in 2016. He also received SPECIAL AWARD from Malaysian Research & Innovation Society (MyRIS) in 2017. M. Sadiq Ali Khan received his Ph.D Degree from KU in 2011 and his BS & MS Degree in Computer Engineering from SSUET in 1998 and 2003 respectively. Dr. Pardeep Kumar, Head of the Computer Systems Engineering Department, QUEST Nawabshah, Pakistan

Dr. Pardeep Kumar is currently working as a Chairman and Associate Professor at the Computer Systems Engineering Department, Quaide-Awam University of Engineering, Science & Technology (QUEST) Nawabshah, Pakistan. Additionally, he is also working as a Director Continuing Education and Coordinator Students Attendance Cell at QUEST Nawabshah. He completed his PhD from Berlin, Germany in 2012. Earlier he did his Bachelor of Engineering (B. E.) in Computer Systems and Master of Engineering (M. E.) in Communication Systems and Networks from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Pakistan in 2001 and 2004 respectively. Dr. Kumar joined QUEST in January, 2004 and later was granted PhD scholarship from HEC Pakistan and DAAD Germany. During his PhD research, he designed and developed a novel MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks. Dr. Kumar has worked with several European Union projects such as WISEBED, DES-Testbed, FeuerWhere & Building Commissioning (ZESAN project). His research interests are in the fields of wireless communication, wireless sensor networks, IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee, Internet of Things (IoT) & Future Internet, communication protocols, energy and delay bound networks, etc. Dr. Kumar has authored more than 40 research publications in reputed journals and conferences around the world including a book chapter. Currently he is supervising several PhD and Master students in wireless communication and networking domain. He has been the organizer, paper presenter, session chair, reviewer and technical program committee member for several conferences and workshops around the world. He has visited several countries including Germany, France, USA, Australia, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Egypt, Slovenia, etc. to share his research work. Dr. Kumar is also a chief organizer of annual International Conference on Modern Communication & Computing Technologies, MCCT (http://mcct.quest.edu.pk). Dr. Kumar has organized several workshops and seminars including the series of Indigenous On-Campus Training (IOT) Workshops at QUEST Nawabshah for the officers of management and administration cadre in the capacity of Workshop Coordinator.

Aim and Scope of Session

Imaginative concepts and ideas that were ingredients to sci-fi movies few years back are quickly becoming a reality. Almost all physical and virtual objects around us would be capable of connecting & communicating with each other through the existing Internet and hence paving the ways for the ‘Future Internet’. The Internet of Things (IoT), an integral part of the Future Internet, is a vision that entails connectivity among different physical and virtual objects in order to understand how the life would change when things, homes and cities become smart. In this sense, IoT counsels individuals, public and private organizations, research and educational institutes about how the ‘smart things’ can be active participants in business, information and social processes by interacting with themselves and with the environment. Thus ‘smart things’ are expected to exchange/process the sensed data, while reacting autonomously to the events with or without any human intervention and self-configuring themselves. The application domain of IoT is spreading out over the time. To name a few, IoT would revolutionize fields such as telemedicine (or the future ‘medical tourism’), irrigation, smart buildings & industries, ecommerce, auto vehicle systems, monitoring & surveillance, etc. However, all these charismatic and pleasing aspects of IoT can be envisioned in reality only if a ‘well-defined’ standard can be constituted that could deal with the complexity, size, security, privacy, time, cost, peaceful co-existence and better integration among the things/objects, and the socio-economic implications. Dr. Preeta Sharan is working as professor in the department of ECE, The Oxford College of Engineering, India. She did her Post-Doctoral, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur and did her PhD degree in ECE, Institute of Technology (IT), BHU,India. The main focus of her research is related with photonics and optoelectronics. A competent professor with 22+ years of experience in Education, Research, Student Mentorship, association with international universities and organizations. Responsible for teaching B.Tech/ M.Tech. Guide Phd. students and execute government/ international agency funded projects. A self-starter with strong entrepreneurial spirit, built R&D center of my own with team size 15+ from scratch. I have delivered projects for prestigious funding agencies across the world as lead investigator like Naval Research Board, DRDO, India, IEEE USA and Govt. of Karnataka (KVGST). With multiple patents in process, research publications reaching 100+ under my leadership. Visited facilities of leading universities NTU Singapore, Tohoku University, Japan and University of Macau. Published papers in premier journals and presented papers in IEEE conferences in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Macau. Delivered lectures for VTU e-learning program via satellite for country wide classroom. Successfully conducted workshops in collaboration of IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. I am the primary focal point and owner for all activities in our college as IEEE student Branch councilor and SIGHT coordinator and also associated with IEEE Humanitarian Technology group. Recently developed device concept for physically disabled person to operate computer bagged best design award in international IEEE IMARC conference 2015. He holds M.Phil in Computer Science, M.Phil in Business Administration PG Diploma in Scientific Yoga and Meditation, M.TECH in Computer and Information Technology with Distinction and Ph.D in Business Administration. Presently he is guiding three PhD Scholars of Anna University. He has been a Professor of Management Studies since 2007 and currently working as a Professor in the Department of Management Studies in PSNA College of Engineering and Technology. Dr. Azween Bin Abdullah, Principal Researcher and Chief Technology Officer, Taylor’s University, Malaysia

Azween Bin Abdullah obtained his bachelor degree in Computer Science, Master degree in Software Engineering, and his Ph.d in information Technology (Cybersecurity). His work experiences includes thirty years in institutions of higher learning and as director of research and academic affairs at two institutions of higher learning, dean of faculty and sixteen years in commercial companies as Software Developer and Engineer, Systems Analyst and IT/MIS and educational consultancy and training. He had spent more than a decade with leading technology firms and universities as a process analyst, senior systems analyst, project manager, and lecturer. He had participated in and managed several software development projects. These have included the development of management information systems, software process improvement initiatives design and implementation, and several business application projects. He has many years of experience in the application of IT in business, engineering and research and has personally designed and developed a variety of computer software systems including business accounting systems, software for investment analysis, website traffic analysis, determination of hydrodynamic interaction of ships and computation of environmental loads on offshore structures. His area of research specialization includes cyber intelligent systems, system survivability and security, autonomic computing and self-healing and regenerating systems, and network modeling. His contributions include publishing several academic books and in the development of programs to enhance minority involvement in bridging the ICT digital gap. He has published more than 150 papers in reputable journals and conference proceeding and has more than 1300 citations. He has several patents under his name and currently working on several research projects in cyber security.

K.M.S.Y. Konara is working as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. He received his B.Sc. Eng. Degree in Electrical and Information Engineering with honors from University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, in 2013 and M.Sc degree in Renewable Energy from University of Agder (UiA), Norway in 2016. He won the best masters’ thesis award in renewable energy at UiA in 2016 and also he has been awarded at the university level for the research performances. The main focus of his research is related with smart grid technologies and grid integration of renewable energy applications. He has published more than twenty research articles in different areas of electrical and power engineering in local and international proceedings including IEEE publications. He has made contributions in the "SEMIAH" EU FP7 research project at UiA, Norway by developing a decentralized home energy management algorithm in Java. He has multi - disciplined ability in teaching and he has have been teaching modules related with electrical engineering and electronic engineering such as Power Electronics, Control System Design, Electric Machines, Digital Electronics, Analog Electronics etc. In every year, he is supervising or co-supervising several undergraduate projects in the department. He is an active academic member of the university, faculty and the department in connection with administration, module coordination, supervision, and curriculum review. Currently he has been appointed to a three member committee as a committee member for a solar energy installation project of the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka. He has contributed to the curriculum revision of the newly proposed Engineering Technology degree program of the Uwa Wellassa University of Sri Lanka as a resource person. Member of Academic Council, MVN University.Member of Academic Council, MRIU. He is also having very good knowledge of Outcome Based Education, (OBE). Prof. Ashok Jetawat is an EA to Chancellor at Mody University of Science and Technology, Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan. After completing MTech and MBA, he did his PhD from Mohan Lal Sukhadia University. He is having more than 35 years of teaching and industrial experience in various reputed organizations. He is the member of “Special Interest Group on e-Governance” of Computer Society of India. He received “Rashtriya Ratana Award” in 2002 for individual outstanding performance. He is the PhD research guide and four students have already completed their PhD under his guidance. He is the authorized guide of AMIE from The Institution of Engineers (India), Calcutta. He is the active member of Internet Governance Capacity Building Program (IGCBP) whose head office is in MALTA. Prof. Jetawat has published more than 30 research papers in national / international journals. He has chaired the technical sessions in various conferences throughout the country. Dr. KTMU Hemapala, Director, Coordinator, Smart Grid Research Group

K.T.M. Udayanga Hemapala received the B.Sc. (Eng.) degree from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 2004 and the PhD degree from University of Genova, Italy in 2009. He is a Senior Lecturer at University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka from April 2009. His research interests are in industrial robotics, distributed generation, power system control and smart grid. He published two book chapters published by IET and Intech in the area of Smart Grids and Automation. He has also published more than 50 journal and conference papers. ALI KASHIF BASHIR (IEEE: M’15, SM’16) is working as an Associate Professor in Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the Faroe Islands, Faroe Islands, Denmark. He received his Ph.D. degree in computer science and engineering from Korea University, South Korea. In the past, he held appointments with Osaka University, Japan; Nara National College of Technology, Japan; the National Fusion Research Institute, South Korea; Southern Power Company Ltd., South Korea, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, South Korea. He is also attached to Advanced Network Architecture Lab as a joint researcher. He is supervising/co-supervising several graduates (MS and PhD) students. His research interests include: cloud computing, NFV/SDN, network virtualization, network security, IoT, computer networks, RFID, sensor networks, wireless networks, and distributed computing.
